Canadian Artist, Landscapes and Abstracts; Inspired by Nature
A little about me
I grew up in northern New Brunswick; and moved to Calgary as a young adult. I'm a sister, a wife, mother, and Grandmother and love spending time with family.
I start my mornings writing and reading. I journal about life and art; my progress, and my plans; decision making and memories. I alternate my time between family, and creating artwork. The best part of painting is the start. I really enjoy the planning process. Big brushes and broad strokes create interesting shapes that I can build on and once the canvas is full; and the design is strong its time to consider more colour. Layers of colour playfully pushing temperature and contrast. Its a conceptual style; as I don't rely on a reference as much as responding to what is developing. With years of past discovery there is enjoy in the creative process.
I'm delighted to be part of the Burns Visual Artists collective. We have two Open Studio events; each May and September. Sign up for my newsletter to announcements. Studio visits are available by appointment. I continue to exhibit and sell my art through local and regional art shows; including the Leighton Art Centre, the State of Art Society and Riverview Artists. I am represented by ArtMatch, a regional online curated art platform.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Sheila’s acrylic artwork often features sharp graphic boundaries between color blocks, breaking standard realism. Her strong compositions utilize asymmetric structure and diagonal curves to create movement. Harmonious colour palettes and paint applications are key elements in her conceptual artwork. A self-taught artist, a retired art teacher. Her sketchbooks are full of exploration which feeds her decision-making process while painting. Sheila works with loose confident brushwork. Expressive in nature to capture the organize texture of Canadian landscapes
I launched my professional career with The Federation of Canadian Artists, (FCA) in 2008, and was recognized as an Elected Member with the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) in 2016.
