A Walk in Baker Park
What are you thinking about while painting?
Some strokes are bold, some opaque and some lightly placed to create depth. While I paint the brush moves quickly, almost playful though I am always thinking of the overall pattern and design, it is the direction, the size, the weight of the stroke that is most important. I'm careful to use the right brush for the right mark and I often use different brushes. Working a section at a time but careful to work the whole painting allowing areas to dry before I make final decisions about any area. Every stroke and color is relevant to what has already been painted, always checking the balance and careful not to get caught up too soon. All areas are blocked in first to ensure the shapes are right for the design, the colors need to read properly to achieve depth, careful to notice areas that demand attention and areas that are passive. Its a process of layering, watching and learning with each new painting I create.
